I was inspired by the Counter Strike 2 Smoke improvements for the Source 2 engine and wanted to try create it myself.
I ended up using Niagara, however I did not use fluid simulation as I wanted this effect to run at a good frame rate in real time.
The smoke is very dynamic and you can interact with it using anything in the game world. Physics props, projectiles etc.
The guns and environment are from the Marketplace, I worked on the smoke system, programmed the shooting + smoke grenade, setup VFX for muzzle flash and added basic sounds.
This is probably my favourite VFX I've made and am super happy it can work in real time. I can also crank the settings up further if it was going to be used for a render if you wanted to try go even higher quality.
Interactive Smoke! This was so much fun to make. I added some sound effects to enhance the video. This is a real-time gameplay showcase. The smoke is very dynamic. Just like Counter Strike 2 it can fill spaces, goes around objects and can be shot through.
Interactive Editor Gameplay. You can see the full extent of cool things you can do with this system. I might make a small game with this system as the core mechanic sometime later.
