On LONN one of my big responsibilities was creating Cyberpunk environments, lighting, world building, level design and level scripting. LONN used Unreal Engine and had to work in VR so I gained experience with the forward renderer and used the PBR workflow. Hitting 90fps was a difficult challenge and many techniques such as real time lighting, post processing AO and other effects had to be faked or not used.
Hideout went through many iterations throughout the project. At first it was a very small alleyway but overtime it became bigger. We wanted to give a sense of what we call a Sector in LONN. Sectors make up the city and in this Sector you have various shops, people and events going on. For the player Luna and Lucky are here, they can get mission updates and new weapons. This is the second level in the game and I wanted to give you the feeling of a wide open space that then funnels into this secret hideout that Luna operates out of which is hidden behind Drone Fix. A sense of discovery, hopefully giving the feeling of going somewhere you're told to go but feels like you're not meant to be there until you see Luna.
I used a mixed of assets by the team, my own assets, Quixel assets and Marketplace assets. I used Blender, Krita and Quixel Suite to develop unique assets and also kit bash to fit the time and scope requirements of the project.
